Call for Nominations: Nanaimo Museum Sports Hall of Fame 2024 Inductees

Nanaimo – The Nanaimo Museum is accepting applications for induction into the Nanaimo Sports Hall of
Fame. The Sports Hall of Fame is a tribute to outstanding Nanaimo athletes and supporters from the
past and present. Past inductees include Michelle Stilwell, Harry Manson and the 1956 Timbermen
team. Nominations for the 2024 induction year must be submitted by December 15, 2023.

There have been 45 inductees in the Nanaimo Sports Hall of Fame since its inception in 2008. There are
five categories: Athlete, Builder, Media, Trailblazer (formerly Pioneer), and Team. The success of the
Hall of Fame relies on community members to nominate individuals and teams. Anyone can submit a
nomination for consideration, except the Sports Hall of Fame committee, selection panel and museum

staff. Nominations can be submitted on the website at https://nanaimomuseum.ca/exhibits-
collections/sports-hall-of-fame/ via the online nomination portal.

The Nanaimo Museum and Sports Hall of Fame committee encourages members of the community to
review the guidelines online and make nominations. “A nomination is a great start to honoring the
significant contributions made by a friend, relative or someone you admire in the sporting community,”
says Sophia Maher, Nanaimo Museum General Manager. “Their accomplishments often represent
nationally recognized achievement in all levels of sport or strong contributions to community athletics in
Nanaimo.” Applications are intended to be barrier free so please contact the museum if you require
assistance.
The 2024 presentation will be made at the Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards happening February
24th, 2023. The Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards were established in 2006 and the awards event
recognizes those within the sport community who, during the course of the year, have made a
significant contribution to the community in which he or she lives. Information about the awards can be

The Nanaimo Sports Hall of Fame is located in the lobby of the museum and the public can visit free of
charge during regular hours of operation, Tuesday to Saturday 10am-4pm. The exhibit includes artifacts,
inductee wall and images spanning a century of sports history in Nanaimo. The Nanaimo Museum is
located in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, beside Serious Coffee. For more information, please
